These courses can be delivered either as open public training courses or in-house and typically involve additional study, assignments, and assessments. Not only do these training courses prepare you for the qualification but they also focus on providing practical skills and techniques which are directly transferred to the workplace. This course is designed to integrate the various aspects and techniques within the field of separation science. We will cover theory, instrumentation, and practice of modern separation techniques including gas chromatography, liquid chromatography, and electrokinetic separations. We will also discuss the sample preparation methods. The emphasis of the course is on practical, empirical, and applied aspects of the above, with sufficient coverage of theory to provide a thorough understanding of how the methods work and to facilitate method development. The unifying features of the various separations techniques are, not surprisingly, the fundamental physical parameters governing the separative process - including equilibrium, mass transport, bulk fluid transport, zone formation, and perturbation, etc. These unifying features will guide us through the course.
Upon successful completion of this course, the delegates will be able to:
This course is intended for those who are new to the technique in sample preparation for chromatography or analysts currently using the technique and desire further understanding. The course assumes a working knowledge of gas chromatography (more than one year lab experience) or a BA/BS degree in chemistry.
