Operational efficiency begins with well-designed processes. This course covers Business Process Management (BPM), hands-on process mapping using MS Visio, and operational workflow design. Participants will map, analyze, and redesign processes to eliminate waste and ensure consistency.
- Apply BPM lifecycle to operational processes
- Create professional process maps using MS Visio
- Design operational workflows with clear handoffs
- Analyze processes for cycle time and value-add
Day 1 – BPM Fundamentals
- Process lifecycle: design, model, execute, monitor, optimize
- Process hierarchy (level 1 to 5)
- Roles in process management
Day 2 – Process Mapping Basics
- Symbols and notation (BPMN basics)
- High-level vs. detailed process maps
- Gathering process information from SMEs
Day 3 – MS Visio for Process Mapping
- Visio interface and stencils
- Drawing cross-functional flowcharts
- Adding swimlanes, decisions, and connectors
Day 4 – Operational Workflow Design
- Designing for clarity and control
- Workflow handoffs and approval loops
- Exception handling and rework loops
Day 5 – Process Analysis & Redesign
- Cycle time, wait time, and touch time analysis
- Redesign principles (simplify, combine, eliminate)
- Presenting redesigned processes to stakeholders
Process owners, operations analysts, continuous improvement leads, workflow designers.
Learning Outcomes:
- Differentiate between process, procedure, and work instruction
- Draw a cross-functional flowchart in Visio
- Identify value-added vs. non-value-added steps
- Redesign a process to reduce handoffs and delays
Target Competencies:
- Behavioral: Systematic thinking, visual communication
- Technical: MS Visio, BPMN notation, workflow optimization
